CERRO AZUL / BLUE HILL
Cerro Azul es una caleta de pescadores de cuyas hermosas playas se obtienen los mas frescos y deliciosos insumos, los cuales pueden ser probados en los diversos restaurantes que se encuentran a lo largo de todo el malecón. Sus playas estan entre las favoritas de los surfistas, posee olas que alcanzan los 3 metros de altura y en las dunas de Cerro Azul es posible praticar el sandboard. Cerro Azul is a fishing cove of beautiful beaches where fishers can obtain the freshest and delicious inputs, which can be tested in the various restaurants located along the entire pier. El nombre de "Cerro Azul", segun la version del antropologo norteamericano Alfred L. Kroeber se deriva del color de los cerros que vistos a la distancia y en ciertas estaciones del año, especialmente en verano, parecen definitavemente de un tono azulado. Existen otras teorias pero esta es la mas aceptada. The name "Blue Hill", according to the version of the American anthropologist Alfred L. La historia de Cerro Azul se remontan a tiempos antiguos, cuando fue el asiento de una cultura pre-inca que vivia de la pesca y agricultura. Posteriormente se agruparon con otros reinos vecinos, conformando de esta forma la Confederacion de Huarco, el cual tuvo como jefe maximo al cacique Chuquimanco. En la epoca de la conquista y la colonia, la ciudad maritima del Huarco era muy conocida por diversos motivos, entre ellos la gran cantidad de sus habitantes y su significación politica. En 1615, la bahia fue escenario de una de las tantas batallas que los españoles libraron contra los piratas, el combate se dio entre la escuadra que lideraba el virrey Hernando de Soto contra el pirata Spilberg quien traia sus 4 carabelas cargadas de oro y piedras preciosas, obtenidas en sus saqueos. Pero este pirata no contaba con que debido al peso de sus embarcaciones se convertirian en presa facil, fue asi que dos de sus carabelas fueron hundidas por el Virrey, ante lo cual Spilberg huyo primero a la Isla San Lorenzo y despues hacia rumbo desconocido. Durante la Guerra con Chile, y tras la ocupacion de Lima, un batallon del ejercito chileno desembarco en Cerro Azul y ocuparon Pueblo Viejo, sin antes haber matado a negros y cholos quienes conformaban la resistencia de estas tierras, demoliendo despues los muros de defensa de Cerro Azul que por tanto tiempo habia enorgullecido a la Provincia, y levantando en su lugar fortificaciones para su propia defensa.
